The Innova Hycross is nice and easy to drivewhether you are commuting in everyday trafficor out ona weekend trip. Its intimidating size,chunky doors and controls may seem like itwould be a handful but the Hycross isn't really.As it turns out, it's pretty effortless tomaneuver or park and that's mainly down tothe combination of light controls and the hybridpowertrain. So it's got a 2.0-litre strong hybridset-up where the petrol engine makes172bhp/188Nm and is paired to an electricmotor which is good for 11bhp/206Nm. Thecombined power is sent to the front wheels(yes, the Innova is now a front-wheel drivemonocoque MPV) through an e-CVT.

The move from ladder-on-frame to front-wheedrive monocoque has resulted in some drasticchanges on the road, most of which are on thepositive side. Firstly, this Innova's body is stiffethan before and at the same time the whole caris around 200 kilos lighter despite thecomplexity of the drivetrain. Also, theunderpinnings including a McPherson strut atthe front and semi-independent torsion beamat the rear may not seem very high tech but theway the Hycross rides over a variety of surfaceis a testament to all the work that has gone intosetting up the suspension localy. The Innova nolonger jostles or struggles to mask its weightover uneven surfaces - there is a newfoundpliancy to its ride that makes it so good overbroken/undulated roads.
