In 2020, the Rwandan government invited African Parks to sign a 20-year agreement to manage Nyungwe. The main objective of this partnership is to restore and safeguard wildlife, engage with local communities, and develop a sustainable tourism program to boost the park's economic sustainability. As a result of this effort, the park is fostering a sense of ownership of conservation among local residents and implementing measures to ensure ecological health and financial self-sufficiency.
