A Bird In A Gilded Cage - Steve Porter

Issued in around 1900 on Columbia Cylinder: 4608. This was also issued on a concert or "grand" cylinder under the same number.

Very interesting to note that Florrie Forde sang this song with such popularity that she was put on the British issue of the sheet music. Also very interesting to see such an American song get directly popular in England at this time.

A year or two later a famous song called Down Where The Whurzburger Flows was released (also composed by Von Tilzer) and it became so popular in England that it was still in the public conscious by the 1950s, the only caveat being that it was released with a different tittle and set of lyrics. It was called Riding On Top Of The Car and sang with great success by George Lashwood.
