I bought some manure and ended up killing hundreds of thousands of worms because it was contaminated. It was dreadful, the smell, the guilt, and the frustration of not being able to do anything about it. It changed everything about how I farm.

Now, I no longer source materials from outside. I collect sand, silt, clay, leaves and I make fresh compost from it and create my own bedding. I don't think I'll ever go back to the traditional ways.

These earthworms were harvested from a single compost pile. They have multiplied many times over. I started with maybe a thousand. I don't think I'll go back to the traditional way of using red wigglers either. Earthworms are wired to eat soil but they also do a pnenomenol job at composting my food scraps. I can't believe I did it any other way. AND, these worms will thrive when they go into my garden. They will burrow, eat soil and microbes and not just survive but thrive at the roots of my plants.
