Ten years ago I went to the PMA to see the Gorky show and ran into three artists. Two of them are in a three person show now at the Gross McCleaf Gallery.
I got to talk to Matt Klos and Tom Walton as well as Sophie White, who rounds out this show of perceptual painting.
What, you might well ask yourself , is a Perceptual Painter?
Well they are a loosely affiliated group of artists who paint representationally but use direct observation and not photography for reference. I have made a number of movies about them, seeing as one of their members and intellectual ramrods is my friend Scott Noel.
