Introduction: A dangerous infection caused by a small invisible insect is spreading rapidly across Andhra Pradesh, causing severe health complications and fatalities. Known as Scrub Typhus, this disease has already claimed 15 lives and infected over 1806 people since January 1st.

The Cause: The disease is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi bacteria, transmitted through bites from mites found in bushes, grass, and fields.


Current Situation: Cases are rising in Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, and Guntur districts.


Major Symptom to Watch: A black spot resembling a cigarette burn appears at the site of the insect bite.


Risks: If untreated, it can lead to multi-organ failure affecting kidneys, lungs, and the brain.


Who is at Risk: Farmers, field workers, and children playing in parks/grass are most vulnerable.

Medical Advice: Doctors warn against self-medication for fevers lasting more than 3-4 days. Early detection is key to survival. Government hospitals are equipped with testing kits and medicines for treatment.
