These are 3 of my top poker strategies that you can use in your next poker game.

Poker strategy is incredibly involved and there is a TON of content out there that you have to go through to compete professionally. But for most people, having a few of the fundamentals down is all you actually need to beat your games! Using these 3 tips, you can develop a basic understanding of how to approach poker more strategically so that you can start to CRUSH your low stakes opponents!

Poker Strategy #1 - STOP Overplaying Marginal Hands Preflop

Preflop Poker is the most important street to master, as mistakes made before the flop compound into more costly mistakes on later betting rounds. One of the biggest strategical errors I see players make is overplaying a marginal hand "just in case they hit" and then TORCHING their money unnecessarily, whether they hit or not!

Poker Strategy #2 - Bet THIN For Value & OVER-FOLD When Raised

An error I see a lot of people making on the river is avoiding thin value bets to see a showdown & win. However, this is one of the most profitable strategies you can develop! By finding spots where you can target the weakest hands in your opponent's range with strategic bets, you will add a substantial amount to your bottom line!

But what should you do when you bet thinly for value & your opponent raises? Well... you should almost always fold. Most players in low stakes games will not find bluff-raises on the river. If this is the case, your thin value hands make TERRIBLE calls as they will not often interact with the absolute top of your opponent's range, which is the portion they are most incentivised to raise for value.

This is why betting thinly for value is great, because players will often play very straightforwardly in response!

Poker Strategy #3 - Keep A Proper Bankroll

In poker you will experience a lot of variance. Even AA (the best preflop hand in NLHE) will expect to lose to 72o (the worst preflop hand in NLHE) 11.80% of the time!! You need to be protected from variance and the way you do that is by ensuring you plan ahead & keep a proper bankroll to play out of, allowing you to always be in the action.
