Exploring the backwoods of West Virginia near the Red Jacket and Matewan areas. Located in Mingo County, and home to some of the poorest areas in the country with an income per capita of just 14,000 dollars, its such a beautiful but sad place. The poverty is over 34%, and as the coal mine business collapsed these areas have suffered immensely. Good jobs are very hard to find, amenities are very few, and a recovery is looking grim. Abandoned homes and empty businesses are a mere reminder of what once was. I start out in Red Jacket, then into parts of North Matewan/Matewan, then back into Red Jacket towards the end. The views are gorgeous at times, and possibly seen a hopeful sign of luck perhaps towards the end of the video? Let's check it out
