New York City Hoods - The South Bronx - Worst Section of the Worst Borough

Today we are in the Bronx New York, and not just any part of the Bronx but the infamous South Bronx which is the poorest section of the poorest borough in New York City. By poor we mean the highest percentage of the population living below the poverty level. 30% of Bronx residents live below the poverty level but that number swells to 37% in the South Bronx.

Violence and crime goes hand in hand with poverty and there is no exception in the Bronx. The Bronx is the most violent borough in New York City. The rate of violent crime in the Bronx is almost twice of Brooklyn and Manhattan (which includes Harlem) and nearly three times that of Queens and Staten Island.

You'll notice in this video that The Bronx of today isn't anything like that of the 1970's/1980's when the South Bronx was an urban wasteland. Long gone are the days of vacant lots, and abandoned buildings as far as the eye can see. Gentrification efforts have been ramping up but the same problems of living in urban America persist. What does the future hold for this part of the city? Does it continue to gentrify or revert back to the slums of the 1970's like in the Charles Bronson movies? Also what do you think of this area?
