This one hour presentation is an overview of the major transfusion reactions seen at the bedside. The key role of the transfusionist in the prevention, recognition and reporting of transfusion reactions will be discussed in this video. Case studies are presented in a symptom-based approach to assist clinical staff in their recognition and reporting of adverse reactions. This overview will reinforce the importance of properly following established blood administration procedures and cover the risks of transfusion therapy for the patient receiving the transfusion.
This presentation has been recorded so that it can be utilized as a nursing, laboratory and physician education and training model to underscore the importance of recognizing and managing transfusion reactions to improve patient outcomes and improve patient safety.
