In the quiet lanes of 1970s–80s Malabar, where stick ice was more than a
treat—it was a memory etched in childhood—Kolice unfolds the tender story of a
mother and her son navigating love, loss, and the changing face of motherhood.
Based on a poignant short story by acclaimed writer Abdullah Mukkanni, and
directed by Ali Arikath, Kolice explores how maternal love—though universal
across species—shifts subtly within human society, shaped by time and
circumstance. These shifts often go unnoticed, yet they define generations.
Shot entirely in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the film recreates the textures of old
Kerala with stunning authenticity. Through intimate moments and evocative
visuals, Kolice becomes a cinematic meditation on emotional memory, social
change, and the invisible threads that bind families together.
