In a carefully worded address during a U.S. visit, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attempted to strike a balance between appeasing Washington and defending his country’s controversial record on terrorism.
While endorsing the U.S. designation of The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terror outfit, Dar contradicted himself by insisting that linking it to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was “wrong” — despite mounting international evidence to the contrary.
He praised Pakistan’s so-called economic recovery under the IMF program, yet offered little accountability for the country’s chronic reliance on bailouts. Dar also raised the Kashmir issue, accusing India of demographic manipulation, but failed to acknowledge Pakistan’s own internal repression and support for cross-border militancy.
On Afghanistan, he admitted concerns over the Taliban’s sheltering of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operatives — a problem many argue Pakistan helped create. His address revealed Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic double-speak: demanding Western aid and validation while selectively denying responsibility for the very instability it helped nurture.
