Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Introducing Data Explorer: A Game-Changing Tool for Excel.

Welcome to the MrExcel podcast. In this episode, we will be discussing Data Explorer, a brand new free download for Excel 2010 and 2013. Released on April 11th, Data Explorer is a game-changing tool that allows you to search for and import data in a similar way to how you search for clip art.

Think of Data Explorer as the ClipArt pane for data. It's incredibly easy to use and has a live preview feature that allows you to see the data before importing it. For example, if you have a sales data set and want to add population data by state, you can simply search for "population by state" and Data Explorer will provide you with 250 results to choose from.

Once you have selected the desired data set, Data Explorer will build a query and import the data directly from the web page. But that's not all - Data Explorer also has a Filter and Shape feature that allows you to refine your data even further. You can hide unnecessary columns, filter out specific rows, and even rename columns to make your data more organized and user-friendly.

One of the most impressive features of Data Explorer is its ability to remember your actions in the Filter and Shape feature. This means that if your data changes in the future, you can simply refresh the query and Data Explorer will automatically apply the same filters and changes to the updated data. This makes it a valuable tool for anyone who regularly works with dynamic data sets.
