With the loss of band co-founder Glenn Frey on January 18, 2016 it looks like the Eagles have decided to not continue without him. Drummer and lead vocalist Don Henley says the Frey tribute with Jackson Browne at this years Grammy Awards will be their last performance as a band.

Henley told the BBC, “That was the final farewell, I don’t think you’ll see us performing again. I think that was probably it. I think it was an appropriate farewell.”

The big plan for was for the Eagles to perform their album “Hotel California,” their biggest after the 1976's “Greatest Hits Vol 1” it it's entirety for the 40th Anniversary of the released. Frey was a big part of that album so it wouldn't be the same without him. Even though some fans are suggesting that it could work with all the surviving Eagles would gather for a tour. There's health issues and much bad blood to be dealt with. Don Felder who co-wrote “Hotel California” with Henley and Frey left the band in 2001 and he and the drummer have not exactly been bosom buddies since. Also original member Randy Meisner who sang and co-wrote “Take it to the Limit” has had serious health problems and issues with alcohol. Meisner's wife Lana accidentally shot and killed herself on March 6 of this year. Original guitarist Bernie Leadon left in 1975 but started touring with the band again in 2013. Without Frey it probably wouldn't make sense but it's not impossible.

Henley says he's just going back to being a solo artist. We should point out that all past members of the Eagles he's had the most successful run going solo. Henley says, “I’m already thinking about the next record, It’s going to be very different from the Cass County album. I’m going to go back to – in the ’60s and the early ’70s, I listened to a lot of rhythm and blues and Southern soul music. I’m a big fan of soul music – Sam and Dave and Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and things like that. So, I may go in that direction. I’m not sure.” - by John Beaudin
