Program Notes: Prana - meditation for four sliding instruments (World Premiere)
“This is not a concert video that needs constant watching - it is a meditation on sound and breath. Please make yourself comfortable and feel free to look away or close your eyes - and just listen to one hour of slowly evolving fortuitous harmonies."

"Prana" is a comprovisation score for four instruments that can play wide-ranging, controlled and slow glissandi – e.g. trombones, bowed string instruments, theremins, or voices. In yoga, the term prana is used to describe our relationship to the flow of energy around us. In working with and through prana, yogis attune their being, breath, intention, movement, opening themselves to the reality of this energy. In this piece, too, constant tuning and searching takes the music from one harmony to the next. The four musicians are constantly and intensely on the way towards a possible harmony with each other. This elusive harmony occasionally emerges from the glissandi – but it can never be sustained. The musicians are guided by an evolving generative score which is tuned to their coordinated breathing - the basic time unit of this piece.
