Hip hop super-group the Wu-Tang Clan were investigated over the murders of two New York drug dealers in 1999, newly released FBI files have revealed.

The documents suggest that two founding members of the rap group, RZA and Raekwon, were involved in the murder of Jerome Estrella, a drug dealer who went by the street name 'Boo Boo'.

Neither RZA - real name Robert Fitzergald Diggs - or Raekwon - Corey Woods - were ever charged.

The files claim they ordered 17-year-old Estrella's death after he robbed their relatives.

The information has been released as part of the federal trial of brothers Anthony and Harvey Christian, who are awaiting sentencing for ordering the murder of Estrella.
The Christian brothers ran a drug empire out of the Park Hill Apartments in Staten Island for 20 years.
In another file, Raekwon is mentioned in relation to the death of another drug dealer, Corey Booker, known as 'Shank Shank', whose murder just a few days after Estrella remains unsolved.

The file details a conversation between Humphreys, Ford and Anthony Christian.

Ford claimed Brooke had robbed RZA's brother and Raekwon's cousin.

He said that RZA subsequently put a $30,000 contract on Brooker's head.

'Ford stated that he had previously heard that Shank Bank was killed by Phife. Ford believes that (redacted) collected money from RZA for executing the hit,' the filing stated.

However, as their sentencing nears, the brothers' lawyers have asked for more information concerning the murder of Estrella.

In papers filed last month, assistant US Attorney Allon Lifshitz asserted that all the information had already been provided prior to trial and produced some FBI files to prove it, The Staten Island Advance reported this week.

Those files suggested that Estrella had robbed RZA's brother, and that the rapper subsequently put out a hit on the drug dealer.

Those allegations are based on the account of police informant Brian Humphreys, who is the man who shot and killed Estrella but agreed to testify against the Christian brothers as part of a plea deal.

'A couple of weeks before the Boo Boo shooting, Uncles (informant Paul Ford) told Humphreys about a Blood named Boo Boo who just came home from jail. He stated that Boo Boo had robbed RZA's little brother and had also gotten into something with the Christian brothers,' the excerpt from the file said, according to The Advance.

'Uncles was talking about Boo Boo and said that he had just come home and robbed RZA's brother and that they would likely come after him for that. Humphreys believes Uncles was referring to members of Wu-Tang.
However prosecutors maintained that the Christian brothers ordered both murders.

They said the files do not change the guilt of the brothers.

The FBI documents were filed to reveal the potential ties of the Wu-Tang Clan to Estrella's murder to defense attorneys before the trial began.'
