Fishguard to Trefin - Wales Coast Path

Section 32 of the Wales Coast Path, and we rejoin the path at the wobbly sign between Fishguard and Goodwick.

Now with totally different weather conditions, Jan and Don set off on a 20 mile trek due to lack facilities on this isolated section. Heavily laden with food supplies and water they set off up the steep climb past the ferry port and up onto Harbour Village.

Now leaving civilisation and onto Pen Anglas where blackberries are tasted and a mystery structure is spotted. Jan recounts the lads’ first experiences in Cardiff the day before, where they escaped the mania of big-time wrestling, only to encounter seal wrestling on this section of the path.

A lush valley is crossed before stumbling upon the memorial stone at Carregwastad Point marking the last invasion of Britain. Much talk of pitchforks ensues.

Onwards across Pen Caer and an encounter with an adder. Not long after, Strumble Head is reached with its unceasing flashing marking the end of Cardigan Bay, and Jan and Don’s halfway point around the entire coast path. Booze is consumed in celebration of reaching 435 miles, and the mystery structure is revealed.

Around the headland Pwll Deri is approached along with heavy grey skies and rain drops. After navigating a huge crater and some blobs, the lads tackle the rocky ascent to the heights of Pwll Deri cliffs. After some heavy rock scrambling, a mysterious bench on the edge of the world appears for a well-timed break.

Back on the path, a sharp rocky descent is completed in extreme wind, before encountering a recent landslip at Pwllcrochan. Around the corner the path drops steeply into a narrow rocky gorge frequented by elusive seals - conditions become treacherous and the lads decide to get out of there.

Dropping back to sea level Jan and Don cross Aber Bach and Aber Mawr beaches, but as there is no shelter to be found here the sodden lads keep trekking until they reach the scenic Abercastle. With the rain dying off for a while the lads have a biscuit break before continuing past a rainbow to Trefin.

Once at Trefin the lads take a well-earned pint and a sit down, but Jan has discovered a pain in his leg.

Will this revelation jeopardise the progress on the forthcoming path sections – find out soon!

Jan makes a tall friend with a fringe and Don pushes his luck on rock.
