Australian Army soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR), commemorated the 74th anniversary of the battle of Kapyong at Lavarack Barracks on Thursday 24 April 2025.

During the Korean War, the Battle of Kapyong was fought from 22 to 25 April 1951 and is regarded as the most important battle for Australian troops in Korea. The parade recognises the Battalions contribution to the battle of Kapyong where 32 Australians were killed and 53 were wounded while stalling the Chinese advance and preventing Seoul from falling into enemy hands. The Battle of Kapyong became a defining moment in the Regiment’s history and, in part, led to the unit’s nickname of 'Old Faithful'.

In 2025 the parade emphasised it’s new armoured infantry role, featuring M113 AS4s and M1A2 Abrams Tanks. Veterans of the Battalion, friends and families were in attendance to commemorate the historical event.
