CHEETAH Walking In The Rain

Sisters Lyndsay and Chrissie Hammond are among the most respected of session singers in Australia, and they had their years to shine out front between 1978 and 1982. Major success came with their 3rd single release 'Walking in the rain' - a cover of the Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil/Phil Spector classic and a hit for the Ronettes 14 years earlier.

The sweet and powerful vocals of the sisters along with a majestic and memorable composition; producing duties from none other than Ian 'Molly' Meldrum; therefore plenty of exposure on his national TV program 'Countdown', 'Walking in the Rain' was indeed a sizeable hit, reaching the Top 10 spending 4 months charting across the country.

Cheetah only released one full length album, the genre switching 'Rock & Roll Women' in 1982, a much tougher sound and brought to us from the heavy hitters Harry Vanda and George Young (Easybeats, Flash & The Pan). It was a wonderful LP, but did not shift the units expected and the girls did little more as a duo. Lyndsay has continued to write and perform in the country genre. Chrissie has continued to work as a session singer.

Enjoy this Antipodean moment from the last quarter of 1978.
