Arangetram Nadhirah Rahmat: Varnam - Sakhiye Intha Jalam

A solo Bharatanatyam Debut Arangetram (24 June 2023)

Nadhirah's Arangetram was presented by ASK Dance Company in collaboration with The Temple of Fine Arts KL
Under the guidance of Shri Shankar Kandasamy, the late Shrimathi Shyamala Narayanan, Vishaka Devi, Shonabushani Velusamy, and Purnima Segaran.

The main item of a Bharatanatyam repertoire is the Varnam which has majore sections of "Nritta", pure dance and "Nritya", expressive dance. The sentiment of this Varnam is that of Madhurya Bhakti where God is the beloved and the devotee is the lover or Nayika. Mediating between the two is the spiritual preceptor or Guru who plays the role of Sakhi or close friends who knows this intimate romance and seeks to unite them. The Nayika is tormented by sleepless nights and Cupid's love arrows. She describes the Lord as the bearer of the conch and discus.
