The musical legend Bari Siddiqui (15 November 1954 – 24 November 2017) mastered his musical skills under the guidance of some of the finest musical gurus in Bangladesh and India. Siddiqui kicked off his career by joining Bangladesh Television in 1985. However, Siddiqui got his first breakthrough with his songs in Humayun Ahmed’s 1999 film “Shraban Megher Dine.” The songs in the film like “Amar Gaye Joto Dukkho Shoy” and “Showa Chan Pakhi” introduced Siddiqui to broader audiences. The folk maestro voiced around 160 tracks throughout his career. In order to ensure the continuance of the Baul tradition of music and culture to younger generations, Siddiqui established a Baul research centre, “Baul Bari,” near his village. He left us with the everlasting gift of the new dimension in Bangla song he created. For his contributions to spiritually enriched folk music, Bari Siddiqui will live among us forever.

An initiative of Sun Foundation; ‘Dhaka International FolkFest’ is a celebration of sheer musical brilliance where myriads of folk artistes from home and abroad perform on a single platform.

সংগীতের বরপুত্র বারী সিদ্দিকীর (১৫ নভেম্বর ১৯৫৪ - ২৪ নভেম্বর ২০১৭) সংগীতের জগতে পদার্পন খুব অল্প বয়সে। বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের খ্যাতনামা সংগীতজ্ঞদের কাছে তালিম নেওয়ার সৌভাগ্য অর্জন করেন তিনি। তাঁর সংগীতের ক্যারিয়ার শুরু হয় ১৯৮৫ সালে, বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশনে গান গাওয়ার মাধ্যমে। কিন্তু তাঁকে দেশজুড়ে খ্যাতি এনে দেয় হুমায়ূন আহমেদ পরিচালিত ‘শ্রাবণ মেঘের দিনে’ চলচ্চিত্রটি। এই চলচ্চিত্রের ‘আমার গায়ে যত দুঃখ সয়’, ‘শুয়াচান পাখি’ প্রভৃতি গান তুমুল জনপ্রিয় হয়, বারী সিদ্দিকীও দেশের আপামর শ্রোতাদের কাছে পান গ্রহণযোগ্যতা। লোকগানের এই কিংবদন্তী বাংলা লোকগানকে নতুন প্রজন্মের কাছে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার জন্য বাউল রিসার্চ সেন্টার ‘বাউল বাড়ি’ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। বারী সিদ্দিকীর অকালপ্রয়াণ স্তম্ভিত করেছিল বাংলাদেশের সংগীতপ্রেমীদের। তিনি তাঁর সৃষ্টি দিয়ে সমৃদ্ধ করেছেন বাংলা লোকসংগীতকে।

সান ফাউন্ডেশনের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত ‘ঢাকা ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফোকফেস্ট’ লোকসংগীতের এক মিলনমেলা। এ উৎসবে বিশ্বের নানা প্রান্তের লোকসংগীত শিল্পীদের পরিবেশনায় অসাধারণ সব লোকগান শোনার সুযোগ পায় বাংলাদেশের মানুষ।
