Los Angeles' New $3.34B Train is Coming
The Automated People Mover (APM) is a driverless train system being built at LAX to improve airport access, reduce traffic, and cut pollution. Scheduled to open by early 2026, it will connect to the Metro Rail system, making public transportation more convenient. The Automated People Mover is part of a $5.5 billion project called The Landside Access Modernization Program that aims to ease congestion for annual passengers at LAX ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
The sky train boasts a sleek white exterior and travels along an elevated guideway designed for a "clean, uniform look" with gentle curves, enhancing its modern aesthetic.

The train's interior will predominantly feature white tones, complemented by newly designed furniture in cyan accents. Inside, each vehicle accommodates up to 50 passengers, including 12 seated, with additional space for standing. During peak periods, nine four-car trains will operate simultaneously, with each train carrying up to 200 passengers. This system enables a total capacity of up to 6,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
