This experimental method was used to find out charge on electron. The experimental set-up consists of an evacuated box which contains a window for viewing inside of box and two metallic plates. These plates are connected to potential source. Upper plate is positively charged whereas lower plate is negatively charged. A fine spray of oil is created using an atomizer. One of the droplet enters the space between two plates. It's suspended by electric field. Inorder to calculate its velocity, potential is turned off and time required to move from upper to lower plate is measured.
