This is an audio-visual presentation, recorded during the Talbot Photography Conference, in February 2018, organised by Dr John Harrison, Richard Peregrine and Peter Graham. The event took place at the University Centre, Blackburn College, and was chaired by Professor Paul Hill MBE. The event provided a unique opportunity to explore the photographic collections of Howard and Wally Talbot (photographers in Blackburn from the 1930s to the 1990s). Dr Harrison's talk focused on recent depictions of the town of Blackburn, Lancashire, in the televisual and news media in recent years, and a discussion of the types of imagery used for such publications and broadcasts. Dr Harrison proposes strategies for countering such narratives, detailing the photographic strategies that lead to the exploration of themes such as nostalgia, harmony and the exotic. Links
