Odawara Castle | best place to visit in Kanagawa, Japan

Odawara castle (小田原城, Odawarajō ) is one of the famous castles of Japan. A three-tiered, five-storied white castle was built in the mid 15th century. During the Warring States Era, Hojo Clan used it as a base to control the region around modern-day Tokyo. In 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi attacked the castle, and he defeated Hojo Clan and reunited Japan.
In 1870 Meiji Government banned the castle buildings. So The Odawara Castle was dismantled. In 1923 due to the Great Kanto Earthquake, the remaining buildings were crushed. But The Castle was rebuilt in 1960 with the help of Civil plans from the Edo Period. Not only the castle Tower but also the corner tower (Sumi-yagura), Tokiwagi-mon, Akagane-mon, and Umadashi-mon gates were restored. Inside the Odawara castle tower, there is a historical museum that exhibits helmets, Samurai armor, Samurai Swords, drawings, paintings, and historical records telling the story of Odawara and Odawara Hojo Clan. From the top of the castle tower, you can get a spectacular view of the entire Odawara city and the Ocean.
There is the Ninja Museum on the eastern side near the main entrance of Akagane-mon gate. Inside the museum, there are the Ninja Obstacles so that visitors can learn more about Ninja Skills and Ninja Culture, and experience being a mighty Fuma Ninja. Ninja courses for kids are very interesting. Even adults can enjoy the Ninja Skills.
There is a Spirits Of Samurai Museum inside the Tokiwaki Gate building across from the castle keep. Samurai armor and swords are exhibited there.
In the Samurai museum, you can see a nice Samurai Movie.
The castle is also a famous spot for cherry blossoms and many other flowers, including plum blossoms, azalea, wisteria, iris, hydrangea, and lotus blossoms. You can enjoy your walk in Odawara Castle Park.
