Nana Mouskouri: One of the most important & influential Greek vocalists of all time. Born in Chania, Crete, Greece, she moved to Athens at 3 years of age. At 16, she was accepted into the Athens Conservatoire, to study classical & opera. Eight years later, she was banned from the Conservatoire, because she was caught singing Jazz music, which was not an accepted form of music there. She left, & began singing at The Zaki Club in Athens, in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. Here, she began working with Manos Hadjidakis, performing at festivals & winning awards.
She was asked by Quincy Jones to come to New York, to record a Jazz album. She caught the ear of Harry Belafonte, was asked to tour, & perform around the U.S. & abroad.
Her early albums were in Greek & German language. When she began recording in the U.S., she began covering standards, in which much of her recordings were in English.
Since, she has recorded over 200 albums, in 12 different languages, & continues to win awards/ achievement honors globally.
"Odos Oneiron", translated as "Dreams Street", is from the 1967 album "I Nana Mouskouri Tragouda Hadjidaki", released in Greece on "Cobalt Music-Helladisc.
