Verizon 5G Home Internet - Customer Review - Speed Tests - Unboxing - Initial setup

I recently became a customer of Verizon's new 5G Home Internet service promising speeds of 300 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up, for $55 per month, or even less if you're an existing Verizon customer.

This is the 5G cube made by Askey, model number ASK-NCQ1338. It operates using C band aka midband 5G on band 77. It's also a tri band Wi-Fi router supporting WiFi 6. You can also connect via the two Ethernet ports. Unfortunately there are no external antenna ports on either the outside or inside the box.

Verizon are still building out their 5G Ultra wide band service but it already covers 30 million households and will keep expanding.

I've been impressed with good speeds, low latency, low ping, low jitter and zero packet loss. I do a lot of video conferencing for work on zoom and it's working great. I didn't test WebEx, or Microsoft Teams but I don't see why they wouldn't work well either.

I was paying $105 per month for 300 down and 30 up with cable, and this is half that price.

I'm not a gamer so I can't speak to how good it is for playing online, but I'm using it without any problems with my work VPN.

It's exciting to see both Verizon and T-Mobile aggressively expanding FWA service, giving Americans more choice for internet instead of just cable and DSL through the phone company. While Starlink is also an option, it's really only as a last resort. Ground based systems have better reliability and predictability.

Verizon has no equipment fee, no monthly contract, and even offers a money back guarantee in your first month. If you're not happy return it for a full refund.

The Verizon 5G supports 5g on bands 2 5 66 77, but at the moment Verizon is only using band 77. This is known as midband or C band. LTE bands are also supported: 2, 4, 5, 13, 48, 66
