Beta Frontiers is Daps Records family, a newly emerged project from the Toronto faction, its arrival punctuated by the haunting pop anthem of "Hondo" (w/ Becky Ninkovic of You Say Party!), and marked by remixes for Major Lazer and the Phèdre siblings. Their genre-shifting approach to electronic music draws influence from 60s sci-fi, original hip hop, bashful pop and the samples that recall the hey-day of trip-hop. Culling soul out of forgotten electronics is the look and feel out on the Beta Frontiers, and that's exactly what the duo talks about here. Beta Frontiers' groove-laden, 303-inflected compositions, cycles of plodding beats, heavy bottom end, adhesive synths, and steadfast vocals place Beta Frontiers on the cusp of something old but new. They appeared in full projected array at Scion Sessions' free show at the Hoxton in Toronto on 8/2/12 as part of Scion Sessions Week, alongside Nosaj Thing, Doldrums, Jesse Futerman, and Lucie Tic.
