In a significant escalation of ongoing hostilities, Israel launched airstrikes on Hezbollah ammunition depots in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley on Monday. The strikes targeted multiple locations believed to house weapons belonging to the Iran-backed militant group, according to a source close to Hezbollah, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the information.

Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that three sites in the Bekaa region were hit by what it described as "enemy Israeli raids." The Lebanese health ministry reported that eight people were injured in the attacks, including six Lebanese citizens, a five-year-old Syrian girl, and a fifteen-year-old Syrian girl.

This latest development comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, which has been exchanging fire with Israeli forces in support of Hamas following the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7. While most of the violence has been concentrated along the Lebanon-Israel border, the Bekaa Valley, a stronghold for Hezbollah, has also seen repeated Israeli airstrikes.

Fears of a broader conflict continue to grow, especially after Hezbollah and Iran vowed retaliation for an Israeli strike last month that killed senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. This strike occurred just hours before another attack in Tehran, also attributed to Israel, killed Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli military reported the death of a member of its Bedouin Trackers Unit in northern Israel, further intensifying the already volatile situation.
