Aesthetic nursing is the provision of specialized procedures for the purpose of cosmetic treatment such as, but not limited to, dermal fillers, collagen stimulators, lipolysis and neuromodulators. This area of practice is constantly evolving and could include more procedures.

This is a joint presentation by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA), and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Members of these regulatory bodies should contact their respective organizations if they have any questions about this presentation or wish to seek practice guidance on this topic.

This presentation will give a brief overview of Alberta nurses’ professional responsibilities and accountabilities related to aesthetic nursing practice including:
• Scope of Practice and Jurisdictional Responsibilities related to Aesthetic Nursing
• The difference between Esthetic Services and Aesthetic Procedures
• Education, documentation and record keeping requirements
• Informed Consent, Infection Prevention & Control and self-employed practice review
