‘Black History Matters’

Robert Small’s film documents the creation of the distinctive 36 metre long Black History Mural painted on the wall of the Central Club in Reading UK.

Created by artist Alan Howard in 1990 the historic landmark is a visual tribute to Black ancestors, global icons and role models like Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Bob Marley alongside local community leaders.

With unseen archive video of the 1990 launch event and footage from the 2017 ‘Save the Mural’ peaceful protest march ‘Black History Matters’ charts the untold story of the campaign to preserve this important historic artwork for posterity.
