“No one should make any changes to any beneficiaries while the divorce is pending,” says Attorney Joanna Fraczek of Sterling Law Offices. The court may ask, or divorcing spouses may agree to keep former spouses on as a beneficiary. This may happen when there is maintenance or child support payments in place. This is a mechanism that allows for coverage when the spouse that is the policy holder dies. Life insurance would then cover the lost payments.
