In this video, Walker Reynolds shares his thoughts on a conversation he had with the guys at InfluxData. They asked with the advent of industry 4.0 and IIoT, what historians will be around in 10 years time?

Will it be Canary Labs, Will it be Rockwell Automation, Flow-Software, or the Wonderware Historian?

Walker basically said in 10 years time there won't be a historian. There will just be a unified namespace with everything stored in a data lake and machine learning / ai algorithms processing that data.

There won't be a need for a historian in the future.

No longer will each layer in the stack have it's own historian... ERP, MES, SCADA, HMI etc.

There will be 1 unified namespace

and EVERYTHING will be stored in a data lake in the cloud.
