By the of this year, The Local Government Capacity Programme in Palestine will come to its conclusion. During the past five years we have assisted 13 Palestinian municipalities on the West Bank in their efforts to strengthen their economic base an develop their local economies. Efforts have centered around the foundation of Local Economic Development Councils and their activities. While still very new, some of these councils have already shown themselves instrumental in the development of the local economy. Running up to the end of 2016, the municipalities will tell their own stories on what they were able to do with the help of VNG International.

This week: Qalqilya

The city of Qalqliya lies right on the edge with the border of Israel and in the center of the West Bank. It’s location has made it a commercial centre, but also one of leisure. Qalqilya hosts the biggest zoo in the Palestinian Territories, attracting tourists from all over the West Bank. Through the initiative of the newly developed local economic council, the municipality has quickly become a positive factor in the economic development of the town. Watch the clip to learn more.
