Chinese Gilt Bronze Bell Made for the Kangxi Emperor | Treasures: Legendary Musical Instruments

Описание к видео Chinese Gilt Bronze Bell Made for the Kangxi Emperor | Treasures: Legendary Musical Instruments

Cast in 1715, this gilt bronze bell was made in an imperial workshop for Kangxi, one of the most important emperors in Chinese history. An elaborate suspension loop on the top is in the form of a double-headed dragon, a Chinese symbol of power, and bears a cast inscription identifying its tone, Bei Wuyi. Only four known sets of bells of this design were made during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor, making this bell extremely rare and representative of one of the world’s longest standing court music traditions. #TreasuresatMIM
