Tajikistan, a Muslim-majority nation, has officially banned the hijab and other Islamic traditional clothing after the parliament's upper house passed a law prohibiting "alien garments" and children's festivities during Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The new law includes large fines for violations. This follows years of restrictions and a campaign promoting traditional Tajik clothing, including 2017 text messages urging women to wear national attire.
