Chand Baori is a well known stepwell located in the Abhaneri Village of Rajasthan.

History : Chand Baori is supposed to be named after a local ruler known as Raja Chanda. The oldest parts of the step-well dates way back from 8th century onwards, but the upper stories were built around the 18th century in the Mughal era.

Chand Baori consists of around 3,500 narrow steps over 13 stories. It extends around 30 m (100 ft) into the ground making it the deepest and largest stepwell of the world.

Rajasthan is known to be extremely arid, and the design and final structure of Chand Baori was made in a way to conserve as much water as possible. At the bottom of the well, the air remains about 5-6 degrees cooler than the surface, and Chand Baori was known to be used as a community gathering place for locals during the times of intense heat. One side of the step well has a pavilion and resting room for the royals.

Movies Shot at Chand Baori : Chand Baori has been used as a movie shooting location for a number of films like Bhoomi, The Fall, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
