Accessibility as a Guide for Equity and Sustainability in Virtual Conferences

During the pandemic, in-person conferences were suspended. Some programs turned to immersive virtual environments to provide enhanced social interactions. This highlighted some of the defects and advantages of virtual reality. As in-person interactions again become the norm, we should not lose sight of the potential for virtual experiences to be more equitable, more accessible, and more sustainable than physical world alternatives, and can look to existing work on accessibility in social virtual reality as a guide.
