THE SHOW FOR MODEL ENGINEERS

"We were thrilled to welcome visitors back to the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition.

The highlight of the 2023 exhibition was the exquisite display of John Wilks' recently completed 10¼ inch gauge LNER P2 "Cock O' The North." This majestic creation drew admirers from far and wide.

In celebration of their 125th anniversary, the exhibition featured a series of insightful lectures presented by Model Engineer and Model Engineers’ Workshop, adding a rich layer of knowledge and expertise. The lectures covered a wide range of topics, with contributions from renowned magazine contributors:

Thursday, October 12th

1:00 pm: Roger Froud delved into the developments in Steam Injector design.
2:15 pm: Neil Wyatt explored the world of 3D Printing for Model Engineers.
Friday, October 13th

11:15 am: Stew Hart provided insights into Designing and building model stationary engines.
1:00 pm: Roger Backhouse showcased the remarkable Jim Crebbin and his experimental locomotives.
2:15 pm: Duncan Webster offered a comprehensive guide to steam engine valve gear.
Saturday, October 14th

11:15 am: Bob Reeve enlightened us on Why metals behave the way they do.
1:00 pm: Chris Gabel gave a fascinating look at Powder coating in the home workshop.
2:15 pm: Mark Noel demonstrated the art of designing and building a seismometer in his talk, 'Hear the Earth.'
Sunday, October 15th

11:15 am: Roger Froud emphasized the usefulness of a CNC milling machine.
2:00 pm: The event culminated with the Presentation of Awards.

The Society of Model and Experimental Engineers graced the exhibition with a grand display, showcasing models and tools from their rich history. Daily, visitors could witness live demonstrations of 3D printing, courtesy of MEW Editor Neil Wyatt.

The show featured nearly forty of the leading model engineering specialist trade suppliers, offering a treasure trove of products and expertise. Hundreds of captivating models competed in various categories and graced the display stands of nearly thirty clubs and societies. The sight of outside steamers added an extra layer of charm to this unforgettable event.
