This is a quick summary of the events surrounding the Peasants Revolt in England in 1381.

Back in the Middle Ages the Peasants' Revolt rocked England to its very foundations.

In this talk I introduce you to an event from medieval English history that is often forgotten but the impact was profound.
We look at the causes, in particular the Black Death & a Poll Tax introduced by the teenage king, Richard II.
Spontaneous risings started in Kent & Essex.
The rebels advanced on London and when they entered the city, they sacked the Savoy Palace (the home of the king's uncle, John of Gaunt). They then made for the Tower of London.

Meanwhile the leader of the Peasants' Revolt, Watt Tyler met King Richard II outside the city.
In one respect a brave act by the teenage king but he had no intention of keeping any promises he was forced to make.
During the negotiations, Watt Tyler was killed.

The Peasants Revolt 1381 was the beginning of ordinary people standing up for themselves in England.

My name is Chris Green ("The History Chap") and I am on a mission to share the amazing history of Britain so that we can appreciate where we have come from and why we are here.

History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.

My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!"

Just for the record, I do have a history degree and continue to have a passion for the subject I studied.
