How to Rebuild a Bicycle Wheel with a New Rim

In this video I demonstrate how to loosen off all of the spokes on a wheel and transfer them to a new rim. I then show how to tighten them all up and get the wheel fully built and trued.

Something that I didn't mention was that to be able to do this job, you need to make sure that the old rim and the new rim have approximately the same effective diameter.

I believe the crack that I showed in my rim was as a result of corrosion from exposure to salt. After starting to transfer my spokes, I noticed similar smaller cracks in the rim with white residue around them.
