Is artificial intelligence good or bad for kids? The answer isn't black and white. Explain why AI should be viewed as a neutral general purpose technology - similar to electricity, computers, and the internet.

AI itself isn't inherently harmful or helpful - it's how we use it that matters. In Nigeria, students with AI tutors learned 2 years of material in just 6 months (with teacher supervision). Meanwhile, AI applications like deepfakes or AI "relationships" might have negative impacts on children's development.

This debate isn't new - Victorian parents worried novels would rot their children's brains, and many of us grew up hearing "too much TV will make your eyes square." Each generation faces these technological challenges.

Rather than blanket rules, parents need thoughtful discussions with their children about both the quantity and quality of AI usage. Guidelines should be personalised based on each child's maturity and needs.
