2025-01-01 - Midnight fireworks from Rose Hill Mauritius

Despite the bad cough (day 15 of the flu) and the impending exams for which I'm far from being ready, I felt I had to take the time today to capture this once in a year event. Mauritius is one of the rare countries where people get to celebrate like this... and even though i do not take part in these celebrations as I go with the biblical New Year which is around March/April, I do enjoy documenting the fireworks.

This footage is from a 500m radius about the corner of Ambrose and Captain Bruce, so I couldn't go further than that... I had to turn around every time i reached 500m... I wanted to start and end the footage around Plaza though...

I was a bit relieved a couple of days ago, when i saw heavy rain, I figured I didn't have to go out to film it again - being sick and all, and having to focus on learning, but tonight at around 22h when i checked the weather, it was pristine... so i really had no excuse.

This was a 7 hour effort including the editing. I wanted to include approximate locations and view directions so that if you live in the area you can guess which ones of those fireworks were yours ;-) You're welcome!

Too bad there is no easy solution to have you view this in HDR like i do on my screen... and even if you have an HDR screen at home, there is no upload service that supports HDR... I was unable to upload HDR content to YouTube with satisfactory results... so this is a non-HDR edit.
