SHARONVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) - Supporters of Donald Trump waited in line for hours Wednesday, July 6, and listened intently as he railed against Hillary Clinton and the media.

The visit to the Sharonville Convention Center was Trump's first to the Cincinnati area since he became the presumptive GOP nominee. In a one-on-one interview Trump talked about the importance of Ohio in the race.

"I love the people of Ohio and I think we're going to do great. I know in certain sections I have a 28-point lead where you have the mines and the steel because I'm going to put people to work. Hillary Clinton is going to put them out of work," Trump said.

Trump said he would negotiate better trade deals that would bring back jobs to Ohio. He was relentless in his criticism of Hillary Clinton but she has polled better with women than he has.

"I'm working very hard on the whole situation with women and I think I'm doing really well," Trump said.

He explained why he believed he hadn't done well with women voters.

"I've had a lot of fun in life and I also worked very hard and I was never going to be a politician and I decided to be a politician. Over my life I joke and I do entertainment and I'll do shows with wild man Howard Stern - who's actually a decent person - and we'll have fun and you're never thinking you're running for office or anything like that."

Trump said he has put women in the highest positions in his company before it was "fashionable" to do so. He also believed his polling with women was improving.

"You're seeing the numbers coming up fairly rapidly. They also want safety for our country and they're viewing me as safety," Trump said.

During Trump's speech, referred to Hillary Clinton as "crooked Hillary." He brought up the decision by the FBI to not recommend charges against her, President Bill Clinton's meeting on a plane with Attorney General Loretta Lynch last week and said her treatment of government emails should disqualify her from running for president.

A number of people have been named as potential running mates for Trump including Indiana Gov. Mike Pence. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich introduced Trump and was also under consideration. Trump said he has a "short list" but wouldn't say who his top choices were.

"We have 10 people that we're looking at very seriously. We have a lot of people that want to do it, people calling frankly, great people, senators, governors that want to be put on the list. And I'll make a decision. The convention is in two weeks. I'll have a decision made a little bit before the convention," Trump said.

Trump said the list included some generals. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was mentioned along with Iowa Senator Jodi Ernst.

Last weekend, a tweet appeared on Trump's Twitter account with a photo of Hillary Clinton next to what appeared to be a Star of David marked "Most Corrupt Candidate Ever." Trump responded to the criticism from Clinton's campaign that the use of the star had anti-Semitic overtones.

"First of all, I have a Jewish son-in-law who is a great guy. I didn't even put that out. They put out a star and the media, the phony media says, 'Oh, that's the Star of David.' It was just a star," Trump said.
