On the occasion of our 20th anniversary this week, we invited people to a birthday celebration with coffee and sweet treats—but the setting was not quite like a typical birthday party.

Inspired by the concept «Folk møter folk» (People Meet People), which has facilitated human encounters in Arendal for 10 years, we hosted dialogue conversations on our birthday. Newly arrived refugees who have come to Oslo from war and conflict were invited to meet and talk with well-known Oslo residents who have lived in the city for a long time.

The dialogue method People Meet People was developed to bring together individuals from different cultural backgrounds for dialogue in public spaces, and to promote social inclusion, citizenship, and community. Nearly 1,500 people have participated in dialogue meetings both in Norway and abroad. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and the method has received awards such as “Best Idea for Inclusion” from IMDi and “Dialogue Voice of the Month” in 2023 from the Nobel Peace Center.
