A compassionate transfer is a procedure sometimes offered when an embryo has already been identified as non-viable. Rather than discarding the embryo, patients may choose to have it transferred as a way to honor the cycle, create closure, or find meaning in their journey. Medically, this is very different from a miscarriage, which occurs when a developing pregnancy has already implanted.
