How many Labourers are there in UAE?
Statistics. According to the Annual Economic Report 2019 (PDF, 18.5 MB), the total labour force in the UAE in 2018 was 7.384 million. The number of people working in all economic sectors of the country reduced from 7.241 million in 2017 to 7.219 in 2018, a decline of 0.3 per cent

Most people might picture labour camps as shabby dormitories with unhygienic sanitary standards. Khalid Al Ameri proves this isn’t actually the case in Dubai.
Workers not allowed to work under harsh sunlight
During peak sunlight hours, they work from 6 am-12:30 pm. They have a three-hour break when they have lunch or take a nap.
Rooms for recreational activities and hosting families
Labour camps have a ‘residence guest room’, where workers can bring their family or friends to stay. The room plays host to recreational activities like table tennis, billiards, a gym, a library, a cinema hall and volleyball.
Workers have control of their passport
A big issue Al Ameri talks about is employees’ access to their passport. Similar in style to a letterbox, Al Ameri shows a room where every worker has a locker, for storing their passport securely and that it is always in their control.

The residential areas of Al Quoz 1, 2 and 4 are home to mainly Emirati families. Newly developed (2012) Al Quoz 2 is south of Al Khail road towards Meydan and the only area outside the rectangle. It hosts Al Quoz' new Pond Park. As for Al Quoz 3 it is mainly industrial.
Al Quoz industrial areas 1, 2, 3 and 4 are in the southwest of the rectangle, and is being developed by Dubai Municipality as an industrial and mass accommodation area. It service development projects such as Dubai Marina and the freezone in Jebel Ali as well as many Dubai hotels by hosting facilities (also called labour camps) that are able to house about 2,000 labourers or staff
On 26 March 2008, an explosion ripped through two warehouses in Al Quoz industrial killing at least two people. The explosion originated from a warehouse storing gas and subsequently ignited a warehouse next door containing fireworks. Flames from the explosion spread to seventy warehouses nearby, causing at least Dh 600,000,000 ($170 mil) of damage.
