Donald Malarkey was an American soldier who served in World War II as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, also known as the "Screaming Eagles." He was born on July 30, 1921, in Astoria, Oregon, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. Malarkey was a part of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which became famous for their heroism during the war. He participated in the D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and other key engagements in Europe. After the war, Malarkey returned home to Oregon, where he worked for the Oregon Highway Department for 30 years. He passed away on September 30, 2017, at the age of 96. Malarkey's experiences during the war were documented in the book and TV series "Band of Brothers."
