Losar,a Tibetan new year festival, is celebrated at Jad(trading community) majority village of Dunda in the month of February by three communities, the Jad ,the khampa and the Kinnauries. Dunda is situated on the bank of Bhagirathi river in the District of Uttarkashi of Uttrakhand. There was a flourishing border teade between India and Tibetan through highland Himakaya passes and consequently this interaction made deeper impact of Tibetan culture on Uttarakhandi Bhotias religious and social customs. After the Indo -china war of 1962,Indo Tibetan trade broke down.During the three days long celebration of this festival ,three Hindu festivals of Diwali,New year and Holi (use flour in place of colours)are celebrated together on alternate days, thereby showing co-existence of of major Hindu and Tibetan festivals.
