Writing: Just do it and be committed, with Walter Mosley

Описание к видео Writing: Just do it and be committed, with Walter Mosley

Writing demands discipline but it also requires a belief in one’s self and in the work. Walter Mosley, whose acclaimed novels have been bestsellers and award winners, tells aspiring writers to focus on the act of writing for the writing itself.

In this interview with Skip Prichard, Walter says that while discipline is necessary to become a writer, “it’s something else too. It’s also belief in yourself and belief in the work.” Walter, who writes for three hours every day, says the more he writes the more prolific he becomes. His work pace results in three to four books a year along with a script or screenplay.

“The most important thing is to do your work every day and do your work for your work’s sake,” he says. “The biggest thing is to just do it and to be committed to it. And if you do that, it’s going to work.”

Don’t focus on getting published as much as on the act of just writing. “There’s something more to the art than just good writing, says Walter. “We’re artists. We create.”
